Marfleet community comes together for a day of action [Archived]

The day of action aimed to bring the community together to clean up the streets in Marfleet, make positive changes to the local environment and have some fun along the way.

Residents got involved in a host of activities including a community-wide litter pick. They also enjoyed some afternoon tea and folk dancing, as well as sports and gardening activities for children.

We have been working with the community in Marfleet to tackle issues most important to them and create great places where people want to live.

David Ripley, Executive Director of Operations, at Thirteen said: “It was fantastic to see so many people coming together in Marfleet to support the work in our community. As part of our acquisition in Hull we agreed to invest in our communities and through areas like our Touchpoint store, investment in homes and work like this, we are standing by what we said we would do.  

We hope that through our continued work with residents, partners and volunteers in Hull, we can support positive changes that our customers want to see in their neighbourhoods.”

Councillor Julia Conner, Portfolio Holder for Environment, at Hull City Council said: “Hull City Council is pleased that local housing providers want to engage with services to improve the local environment for residents.

By working together, we can ensure all households have the information they need to manage their waste correctly. We really value the proactive approach by Thirteen Housing and are happy to work in partnership.”

Jonathan Clark, Prevention Delivery Manager, at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said: “Humberside Fire and Rescue Service works regularly with partners across the city to tackle anti-social behaviour and deliberate fires which are a blight on our communities.

Activities such as the Marfleet day of action are key to reducing risk, targeting those responsible and providing reassurance to those living in affected areas.

Clearing gardens and reducing waste stored around properties is a major factor in removing the opportunities for those starting deliberate fires and the intel gained from talking to residents will help shape future fire prevention work in the area.”

Sgt. Jonathan McCloud, at Humberside Police said: “We hope that this level of engagement with the residents and all the partners present can continue, as it will undoubtedly benefit the entire community moving forward, which is something we are very much committed to.”

Tanya Parkin, Project Coordinator, at Timebank said: “We thoroughly enjoyed hosting the afternoon tea session on Thirteen’s day of action. Our goal is for residents and Timebank members to use their community centre, enabling a space and opportunity for connection, friendship, belonging and support.

Events like this are essential in bringing people together and allowing us to understand what the resident's want and need.”
