We're working in partnership with North East based regeneration specialist RE:GEN, to upgrade Glastonbury House in the Priestfields area of the town and install new fire safety measures.

The work includes mechanical and electrical upgrades, security and CCTV, ventilation, sprinkler system, new bathrooms, doors, a communal kitchen, full decoration and much more.

The project is expected to be completed in December 2025.

Thirteen’s investment area manager Claire Atkinson said: “This is a complex project due to the scale and age of the building and we’ll be continuing to support our customers, as we work through the project, ensuring we minimise any disruption.

“We know our customers are looking forward to seeing the difference the investment will make to their homes.”

Director of investment services Jake Irvine said: “We’re committed to investing in our customers’ homes. Providing homes now, and in the future that suit our customers’ needs is our priority.

“Accommodation like this at Glastonbury House, with support from a living well coordinator allows our customers to live as independently as possible.”

Jonathan Horner, managing director of RE:GEN North East added: “We’re really pleased to be working with Thirteen once again, delivering essential upgrades that make a meaningful difference to homes and the people who live in them.

"Our team is on site, doing what we do best—building strong connections with residents, ensuring they understand the purpose and benefits of the work we’re carrying out, and supporting them every step of the way to keep the process as smooth and comfortable as possible. We’re excited to see the positive impact these improvements will bring by the end of the project.”

The project was subject to a Building Safety Regulator application, which sets out rules to protect the design and construction of higher-risk buildings, and in turn gives residents confidence in the safety and standards of the work.

Glastonbury House, which has 91 flats, was built in around 1968 and provides sheltered accommodation to people aged 60 and over.

The work is part of Thirteen’s £55million investment plans which will see thousands of homes in the North East and Yorkshire benefit from home improvements this year.
