Thirteen helps to spread jubilee joy
Hundreds of people in Thirteen’s communities celebrated the Platinum Jubilee in style over the weekend thanks to support to organise a number of special events.
8 Jun 2022
Thirteen, which owns and manages over 35,000 properties between Humberside and North Tyneside, provided more than £1,500 from its community resilience fund towards celebrations in a number of supported living, extra care and sheltered housing schemes from Newcastle to Hull.
More than £1,100 was also provided for celebrations organised by partner organisations in communities across Teesside.
Staff members from Thirteen's care and support team helped to organise a range of jubilee themed activities for customers to enjoy, including live music, games and party food.
Yvonne, 88, who lives in Thirteen’s Barnaby House extra care scheme in Eston, said: “We were treated to a wonderful day to commemorate a wonderful lady’s 70 years on the throne.
“After the last couple of years, what better way to celebrate than to be with so many friends and neighbours, under the same roof!”
Speaking about the success of the events, Tanya Scott, care and support manager at Thirteen, said: “It’s been absolutely fantastic to see the smiles on customers’ faces during our Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
“Our supported housing schemes provide so much more than just a home for customers – it’s important that people can build friendships and feel part of a community, too.
“After a challenging couple of years, the recent jubilee celebrations helped customers reconnect with each other, which really lifted everyone’s spirits.”
The funding comes as part of Thirteen's recently launched five year locality plans, which will help to bring together a range of partners to support members of the community, enabling the better use of resources and helping partners work together with local people to improve their neighbourhoods.
Samantha Vernon, community resilience manager, added: “The Platinum Jubilee events over the weekend gave the opportunity for our communities to come together and create happy memories, and feedback from our customers has been brilliant.”
“We’re really proud to have played a part in supporting a number of events through our community resilience fund, which forms part of the work we’re doing to empower people to create the improvements that are most important to them in their neighbourhood.”
